Located in the Northwest corner of DeKalb County is the vibrant Village of Kirkland. The first inhabitants were the Pottawatomie Indians who grew rice, corn, and refined maple syrup. After the removal of the Native Americans, the Village of Kirkland was established on August 16, 1882. Kirkland has previously been an avid farming town that raised many sheep and cattle. Currently, Kirkland is a growing community boasting numerous available business buildings and sites as well as a booming agricultural industry. Kirkland has convenient access to both railway and highway and is the perfect location for new business opportunities. Kirkland boasts the largest fireworks show in Northern Illinois and the longest continuing Fourth of July celebration.
