Karen Hoyle, a lifetime City of DeKalb resident, joined DCEDC in 2010, bringing nearly twenty-five years of previous administrative experience in the real estate finance and banking industry to the position. As Administrator, Karen plans and executes daily operations at DCEDC, including the hiring of staff and interns, planning and executing fundraising operations, maintaining membership and member benefits, organizing board and committee meetings, managing the operating budget, and overseeing the website and social media channels. In addition, Karen directs the annual planning and coordination of DCEDC events, such as the Economic Outlook luncheon, Business Roundtables, Technology/Industrial Focus luncheons, and the DCEDC Annual Dinner. In 2015, she planned and organized the largest DCEDC State of the County/Annual Dinner to date, featuring Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner as the keynote speaker. In addition, Karen provides administrative support to the Executive Director, which includes application processing for the DeKalb County Enterprise Zone, certified in 2016.
In a continued pursuit to better serve her community, Karen attended the 2011 Illinois Basic Economic Development Course, accredited by the International Economic Development Council. She successfully completed 32 hours of economic development training, designed for new, up-and-coming economic development professionals.
In her spare time, Karen enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Karen is extremely passionate about animals. She enjoys riding and competing with her registered American Saddlebred horse throughout the United States. Karen is married to Greg. Together, they have two wonderful sons and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Tori, and Connor.
