DeKalb County is part of the Northeast IL Area Health Education Center (AHEC) that is currently working to address medically underserved areas and populations. Northern Illinois University’s College of Health and Human Sciences hosts the NE IL Area Health Education Center Partnership Initiative currently looking for partners to support current and future AHEC students and programs. AHEC students receive additional educational and mentorship opportunities as well as experiential learning opportunities.
